Meet the Author

Ushawn Morton is a devoted father, advocate, and voice for families navigating life on the autism spectrum. As the author of On the Spectrum, Out of This World: Parenting Autism, he shares a deeply personal and powerful account of raising his daughter, Ushanae, and the journey that transformed his understanding of parenting, resilience, and unconditional love.

What began as confusion and uncertainty following his daughter’s early developmental challenges became a mission rooted in education, advocacy, and compassion. After years of navigating misdiagnoses, school system struggles, and the emotional weight of not having answers, Ushawn and his family finally received clarity through a formal autism and ADHD diagnosis. That moment marked a turning point—not just in understanding his daughter, but in redefining what it means to support and empower a child whose brain works differently.

Drawing from real-life experiences—including navigating IEP and ARD meetings, addressing bullying, building structured routines, and working closely with medical and educational professionals—Ushawn brings an authentic, father-centered perspective that is often missing in the autism conversation. His voice resonates with parents who are searching not only for guidance, but for reassurance that they are not alone.

Ushawn’s work goes beyond storytelling. He is passionate about helping parents better understand how autistic children think, process emotions, and interact with the world. Through his writing and outreach, he aims to equip families with practical strategies, emotional insight, and the confidence to advocate for their children in every setting—from the classroom to everyday life.

Based in Texas, Ushawn continues to support autism awareness through community engagement, resource sharing, and speaking opportunities. His mission is simple yet powerful: to remind families that children on the spectrum are not broken—they are uniquely wired, full of potential, and capable of thriving with the right support.

Through his journey, Ushawn hopes to inspire a shift in perspective—one that embraces neurodiversity, strengthens families, and celebrates the extraordinary beauty of children who are truly “out of this world.”
